2 Barangays in Alegria Adjudged as Outstanding Barangays in Surigao del Norte  

Mayor Esma and ABC President Angob recieved plaque of recognition and cash as the 3rd Outstanding Peace & Barangay Council in Surigao del NorteTwo barangay Local Government Units in the Municipality of Alegria were proclaimed as one of the Most Outstanding Peace and Order Council and Most Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa 2009 in the Province of Surigao del Norte during its awarding ceremony last September 1, 2009. Go OTOP!OTOP took centers stage during the 41st Adlaw nan Alegria celebration dubbed KABIBO Festival last June 11, 2009 at the Municipal Grounds, Alegria, Surigao del Norte. 

Alegria is aptly referred as the rice bowl of Surigao del Norte, thus it is no wonder that under the leadership of Mayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr. the municipality adopted RICE as their OTOP. (continue)

One of the flagship program of Hon. Congressman Guillermo A. Romarate, Jr. of the 2nd District of Surigao del Norte and Hon. Mayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr. of Alegria, Surigao del Norte is to promote good health among the constituents. Bibingka eating contest as part of the KABIBO festivalMake way for the newest and most environment-friendly merrymaking in Surigao del Norte, the aptly named KABIBO festival from the happy town of Alegria!Kape, Bibingka, Bodbod- they are highly appreciated delicacies that make up the acronym KABIBO. These are products that the people of Alegria do hope to be recognized primarily due to a decades-known fact that Alegriahanons do make excellent bingkas, bodbod and kape.(continue)  

Mayor Esma delivers 2nd SOMA  

Mayor "Yoyoy" Esma delivers his 2nd SOMA In celebrating the 41st Araw nan Alegria (foundation day of the Municipality of Alegria) on June 15, 2009, the Municipal Mayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr. conveys his 2nd State Of the Municipality Address (SOMA) to Alegriahanons (people of Alegria). 

His report contains significant accomplishments of his administration in 2008 covering the areas of governance, administration, social services, economic development, environmental management, infrastructure development and the 2009 plans and programs. (view Mayor Esma 2nd SOMA report)

 

EXPANDED AND SPECIAL AGRARIAN REFORM COMMUNITIES IN 5 BARANGAYS OF ALEGRIA SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED;;;;;

The Department of AgrarianMayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr. and DAR Regional Director Elmo A. Bañares led the ceremonial cutting of ribbons in connection to the launching of expanded ARC barangays witnessed by government line agencies, municipal and Barangay Officials. Reform (DAR) through the Municipal Agrarian Reform Office (MARO) and the Local Government of Alegria identified another 5 barangays to be included under the ARC (Agrarian Reform Communities) program of DAR to service existing agrarian reform beneficiaries and stakeholders to avail of projects like farm equipments (pre and post harvest equipments), infrastructure facilities and credit financing. In response to the plan of LGU Alegria to enter into economic enterprise business, it constructed a building where the Municipal Development Center, Crisis Intervention and Livelihood center are found with added facilities on it such as the E-library with 3 units of computers installed with internet connection and audio-visual facilities. To boost backyard and communal gardening in every barangay of the municipality, the Municipal Agriculture Office of LGU Alegria, Surigao del Norte through Mrs. Bencula T. Dandan the Municipal Agriculturist, distributed assorted vegetable seeds to the 12 barangays during the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) meeting (continue) 


Senator Mar Roxas Brief Visit to LGU Alegria

Senator Roxas displayed his strength by carrying a bag of onions in his shoulders.
 

Senator Mar Roxas tagged as Mr. Palengke made a brief visit to the Municipality of Alegria. He met the municipal and barangay officials led by Mayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr., Vice-Mayor Ernesto Odjinar, Sr. and Provincial Board Member, Atty. Carlos Egay, Jr. He was enthusiastically welcomed by the people during his first visit to the municipality after he was elected as Senator in the 2004 elections. Senator Roxas was quickly invited by Mayor Esma to see the actual situation of Alegria Central Public Market wherein he was able to talk personally with the vendors. (more) 

 
LUMONDO WATERFALLS VISITED BY 2 GIANT TELEVISION NETWORKS

Appearance of local observers at Lumondo Falls during the ABS-CBN and GMA 7 TV coverage on March 6, 2009 and March 11, 2009, respectively.Lumondo Falls and Eco-park were recently visited by two (2) giant television networks operating in most cities in the Philippines and abroad, the ABS-CBN and GMA-7. With this kind of promotion done by the said networks, the local residents of Barangay Budlingin will soon notice tremendous local and foreign tourist visits once it will be featured in one of their popular TV programs (continue…)

BIRTHING AND TB DOTS CLINICS IN ALEGRIA FORMALLY OPEN

Mayor Esma with PNP Prov’l. Director of Surigao del Norte Police Senior Superintendent David Ombao during the ceremonial cutting of ribbons of the newly opened Birthing ClinicMayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr. responded to the call of the Department of Health to establish a Birthing Clinic to cater pregnant women in order to control mortality of women giving birth likewise to still birth or death of newly born babies due to lack of medical services during and after the delivery period. It has been experienced that records of mortality cases appeared due to lack of medical preparations before giving birth. It is now discouraged to pregnant women to deliver in homes but to avail of the birthing clinic services. (continue)

 

4 Barangays in Alegria Recipient of USAID-Gem Projects

For calendar year 2009, four (4) barangays in the Municipality of Alegria are soon to implement projects funded by the United States Aid for International Development (USAID) under the Growth Equity for Mindanao fund allocation. Qualified barangays to receive of this kind of foreign assistance were those enrolled and identified as KALAHI barangays. (continue)

Continuous rains coupled with strong easterly winds that started January 12, 2009 and ended up January 16, 2009 (weeklong heavy rainfall) in most parts of Mindanao brought damage to houses, agricultural crops and infrastructures. In Alegria alone, estimated damages reached to 18.5 million pesos in properties and infrastructures that prompted Mayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr. to declare the entire municipality under State of Calamity (continue)
