The Municipality of Alegria is one of the recipient LGU’S in Caraga Region that availed the DAR-IFAD NMCIREMP, a foreign assisted project through the Department of Agrarian Reform, whose mission is to help reduce poverty in rural areas by extending financial assistance to poor families in the form of livelihood and infrastructure support such as farm to market roads, potable water system and pre/post harvest facilities that are agriculturally related projects.
From the start of the project way back mid-year of 2003 up to December 11, 2008, an aggregate amount of more than 12 million pesos had been released to various infrastructure and livelihood projects to CI’s and BAWASA organizations coming from 6 barangays. Barangays Budlingin, Poblacion, Anahaw, Alipao, San Juan and Pongtud are the lucky ones among the 12 barangays of the municipality.
The following completed infrastructure and livelihood projects now being sustained were the 2 potable water system level II located at Brgys. Poblacion and Anahaw; the .880 kilometer concrete road at Brgy. Budlingin and livelihood projects to these 6 barangays ranging from hog and chicken raising, fishing gears and vegetable/ rice production. A 5 million peso potable water system project at Brgys. Pongtud and Alipao is under-going construction and is expected to be completed on March, 2009 before the termination of the project comes June 30, 2009 by the funding agency.
During the assessment period that started December 1-10, 2008 conducted by the Municipal Project Office and the local DAR office, the stakeholders manifested that projects implemented in their area provided them the needed the opportunity and support to increase family income. In the said assessment activity, we also identified good performing stakeholders and tokens were distributed to deserving organizations. In the culmination program and Christmas party sponsored by LGU Alegria last December 11, 2008 held at the Municipal Development Training Center attended by stakeholders of the project, municipal officials headed by Mayor Dominador G. Esma, Jr. and Vice-Mayor Ernesto C. Odjinar, Sr., PPCO and PFO Officers of Surigao and Butuan City, respectively, messages of admiration were heard due to the satisfactory performance of the project. The Mayor in his speech challenged the beneficiaries to continue the good track record they shown since more projects are coming in during his administration and he promised to continue supporting the associations with good standing. The activity of the day ended with smiles and on the part of the project beneficiaries, they expressed their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the DAR-IFAD NMCIREMP, to Mayor Esma and Vice-Mayor Odjinar of their full support in facilitating the project into reality and success.
